Kyal and Kara Demmrich, Block alum and full-time renovators, are working on their latest project, a double-storey brick house in Shelly Beach on NSW’s Central Coast. The couple plans to put the home on the market this spring.
Kara expressed her enthusiasm about the potential buyer, saying, “It would be so amazing if our buyer was someone who was following the renovation from the beginning.”
The Renovation Project
The house is located in Shelly Beach and is being extended to the front and back, with a more open-plan layout and a moody palette. Kyal and Kara have confirmed that their Grandview project will hit the market in spring 2026.
The couple is documenting their renovations on social media, which has had a positive impact on their work. It has allowed them to connect with an engaged community, crowdsourcing opinions and finding major building brand collaborators.
Design Plans
The Grandview project involves a design that leans into darker timbers and tones, a departure from Kyal and Kara’s usual light and bright aesthetic. The couple shared their design plans on Instagram, saying, “It’s going to be really moody but still within our coastal style.”
Previous projects, such as their Bay Builds duplex, have been successful, with the sale of both properties earning over $5 million. This time, Kyal and Kara are transforming a home with great potential, after a lengthy search for the right property.
The Renovation Process
Kyal and Kara shared the news of their renovation on Instagram in November 2025, writing, “After 12 months of searching (and a couple we’ve missed), we’ve finally found the one. This home has the most incredible bones, and we can’t wait to breathe new life into her.”
The couple is planning to preserve and work with the home’s best features, including the high ceilings and windows framing the view. They also plan to keep the existing pool, but warn that their plans may “evolve” as the renovation gets underway.
As Kyal and Kara work on their Grandview project, they are considering the needs of potential buyers. By creating a space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing, they aim to attract buyers who appreciate their unique design style.
